Studying history is important because it allows us to understand our past, which in turns allows understanding our present. If we study the success and failures of the past, we may, ideally, be able to learn from our mistakes and avoid repeating them in the future. The department of history has been lively since the very commencement of this college in 1979 and carefully attention is paid to the teaching of history. As a foundation discipline in the humanities and social sciences, the department of history offers a testing ground for assumption and propositions about human action., beliefs and ideas. To study history offers a means to explore our shared humanity and to learn about the particularities of the human experience. Besides the higher secondary classes the history department of the college offers both Major and General courses in undergraduate level. Currently the department has the enrolment capacity of more than 55 (fifty five) students in both Major general courses. The department has its own full-fledged library and a very well qualified faculty. Most important feature is that in addition to the allotted classes in the routine, the faculty take utmost care in giving subtle touches and to smoothenthe rough patches in the learning process. This is tried to be achieved through the regular brain storming session with their major students. Departmental perseverance in these particular aspects has born fruits as is reflected in the gradually rising graph of its output. The junior students have also been inspired in the endeavour to emulate the feat shown by their seniors. The department has also organized quite a few interactive sessions, UGC sponsored extension programmes, educational tour and other scholastic activities. Future forecast of the Department are seminars, awareness programme on the study of history, establishment of Historical museum, Publication of Historical Journal etc.
